Saint Peter Education Foundation

P.O. Box 284   Saint Peter   Minnesota   56082

Since 1988, the Education Foundation has raised and dispersed more than $75,000.  Over $40,000, came from approximately 165 interested individuals.  Over the years, organizations such as the Lions, Red Men, and Kiwanis, have donated more than $7,000.  Local companies have supported educational opportunities in St. Peter to the tune of approximately $5,500.  The foundation has been fortunate to have received substantial grants from the Schmidt Foundation.  In the last 13 years, they have donated $12,000 dollars, but these funds have become particularly important recently as the yield from other sources has faded.

Teachers, principals, and organizations submit grant proposals to the Education Foundation for projects which cannot be funded from the current operating budget.  These brief proposals contain a description of the proposed activity, the expertise of those involved, and a detailed budget.  For those interested, application materials are available in the offices of all of the St. Peter schools or from Wanda Jaster at the First National Bank.  Occasionally grant writing workshops have been offered through the Community Education Office.

Twice a year, at the June and December meetings of the Foundation board, proposals are considered for their potential impact on St. Peter education.  In general, groups are funded no more than three times for the same project, with the expectation that successful programs will be picked up by the appropriate organization.  In this way, the foundation hopes to be able to continue to help get innovative programs started.

Since June of 1989, the Foundation has funded more than 100 projects totaling over $75,000.
